With an ironic playfulness, the Viennese ensemble dusha connection translates well-known melodies from the work of the French composer Erik Satie - artistically alienated and condensed with idiosyncratic arrangements - into a contemporary jazz language. Also inspired by Satie’s life story - he earned his modest living as a pianist and composer via the social underbelly of vaudevilles and cabarets, was rejected by the academic, established music scene throughout his life, and was also rumored to have suffered from Tourette’s Syndrome - dusha connection approaches Satie‘s legacy with a new interpretation, using unusual instrumental-acoustic sounds, rhythms and techniques to create a sometimes humorous, sometimes dreamy and wistful musical bridge between the misfit worlds of the present with the past. For this undertaking, the classical jazz formation of piano, double bass, drums, and trumpet expands its timbre with a Chinese violin, the erhu.
